Does WIOA pay for job training?

Yes, if you qualify. Public workforce funding under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) can pay for job training at a school your state has approved, from a CDL course to a nursing program. This page says who comes first, where to apply, and what else can pay.

Who qualifies for WIOA-funded job training?

WIOA funding can pay for training for eligible adults, people who lost their job and young people.1People on public assistance, with a low income or lacking basic skills come first, and veterans have priority.2Eligibility rules apply, and services vary from state to state.3

How do you apply for WIOA training funding?

Through your local American Job Center, which can tell you whether you qualify. The Department of Labor's American Job Centers page links to the center finder, or call 1-877-US-2JOBS (1-877-872-5627).3

Which schools and programs can WIOA pay for?

The funding pays for programs on the state's list of eligible training providers, the ETPL.4 Every program on this site is on one of those lists: 13,082 programs in 9 trades across all 50 states, DC and 4 territories, each with its price and how past students did.1 Pick a trade at the foot of this page, or your state, to see each program.

Will a trucking company pay for your CDL training?

Some trucking companies run their own schools and may pay the tuition if you drive for them for a set time, such as a year.5 The CDL training list on this site does not show which schools belong to a carrier or what the driving commitment is; ask the school.

Can you use the GI Bill for job training?

Veterans, service members and qualified dependents can use GI Bill benefits for non-college training programs.6 Whether a given school is approved for GI Bill benefits is not in the program list on this site; check with the school and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Do Pell Grants cover job training?

Most students can get federal student aid for college, career school or trade school. A Federal Pell Grant, unlike a loan, usually doesn't have to be repaid. Ask the school whether its program qualifies.78

What to check before you sign up for a training program

Funding rules, priorities and the approved list change, and each state and local workforce board applies them in its own way. Before you enroll, confirm with your American Job Center that the program is still approved and that you qualify, and confirm the price and length with the school. The figures on this site come from the US Department of Labor's file for program year 2024 and describe past students; they are no guarantee.
