Can you get job training free without a diploma?

  • Yes, if you qualify. WIOA (public workforce funding) can pay for any program counted on this page, in full or in part, depending on local limits.123
  • Ask an American Job Center whether you qualify, or call 1-877-872-5627.4 Before funding training, the center goes through an assessment and a career plan with you.3
  • Or pay yourself. Each state's field pages list every program with its price if you pay yourself.

How "no diploma needed" is counted

  • Programs: every program in the site's 95 fields that a state approved for WIOA funding, from its eligible training provider list,5 in the US Department of Labor's file for program year 2024 (July 2024 to June 2025). A program counts for the state that approved it.
  • No diploma needed: the school filed "no prerequisites" for the program. Programs asking for a diploma, a degree or earlier courses are counted as needing something.
